Spring Seedlings Swap // Saturday 19th April
Not only is gardening highly therapeutic but it is a beautiful and quiet act of resistance against modern industrialised farming.
As an urban area, our gardens don’t quite match up with the ideal dreamy fields full of veg, but any kind of gardening is more than nothing. Be that keeping house plants, having a few pots of herbs and tomatoes on your balcony or a shared garden or if you’re super lucky, an allotment.
It’s a classic gardening move to throw down a lot of seeds thinking only a few of them will take, only to then suddenly be responsible for 20 tomato plants...
This is a chance to meet like-minded green-fingered individuals, and trade some of your seedlings glut for someone else’s!
How it will work:
At 2pm - come along with plant babies (see below for what you can bring) you’d like to swap for something else.
You’ll be given a pen and sticker to label your plants with the variety and your name.
You’ll hand them in to the trading table and be given tickets in exchange. This is a one-for-one swap, each item you bring means another you can take.
Have an explore of Hackney Wick or a little chill time somewhere. We’ll organise the plants.
At 3pm come back ready to shop with your token.
Any of your plants left at the end of the day will be labelled with your name and can come home with you again, but hopefully they’ll have found a new home.
You can bring along the following to trade:
Rooting cuttings from herbs/trees/shrubs
Seedlings in small pots ready to pot on
Propagating house plant cuttings
Attendance is free, booking not totally necessary but it helps give us a vague idea of numbers!
